Origin http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=178548

An excellent piece. Reminds me of the Simon Kolawole I used to know.

Like my friend Chxta Nwanze will always say, the greatest undoing in the country is the toothless or perhaps better put - inadequate judicial system. That sad factor, is the fertile ground that Any Government In Power - AGIP (borrowed words of Simon Kolawole, Thisday) thrive on.

Political sycophancy is not peculiar to Nigeria but ours is a case where the political jobbers gain induced immunity to their past and future crimes. Like Kola rightly said, the more things seem to change, the more they remain the same.

A president that does not sanction the actions of the criminal minded AGIP, has the wherewithal to make them stop. If he can't, he is essentially defining his person to us.

Lets open our eyes, what has GEJ done since assumption of office?. Same routine like others - silently ease criminals out of the system without them facing the long arm of the law, albeit a decrepit judicial system. Treason, complicity in corruption and subversion of funds past and present (Halliburton, Gulf oil windfall, PHCN, 50th Anniversary etc), silence on Oil spillage in the Niger Delta .. my list may just be endless.

Facebook though a good measure, has come to replace the loudmouths of the Tom Ikimi/Femi Fani Kayode persona of Administrations gone before. Same difference!

GEJ, if you have good intentions - your actions should speak louder and reach more people than the digit counts on your facebook. Another good political move is to distance yourself from the AGIP jobbers.

Facebook response to Aare Vs El - Rufai

Origin Login | Facebook

To start, I am not a Rufai fan nor apologist.

In some forum where I have had cause to talk about the race to Aso rock come 2011, I put Nuhu Ribadu and El-Rufai as some of the leading lights for an improved Nigeria.

Of the two, Ribadu easily gets my nod. Both can and may not be extricated from the perpetrated evils of the OBJ administration but they are the lesser evils to contend with.

Rufai's seemingly double-speak that subtly promoted the elongation of the reins of OBJ will NOT be forgotten. Yet I say that other allegations against him on misappropriation on allocation of Abuja properties are 'spurious'. Till date, the Senate's only grouse against him was that he (Rufai) acted as FCT Minister beyond 16th May, 2007 which was the supposed handover date. On that, I say that another FEC meeting on 23rd of May 2007, indicated that OBJ allowed key Minsters (of which Rufai was one) to work till the 29th when they all handover.

That said, Rufai is yet to absolve himself following the abysmal performance of the OBJ economic think tank that played key roles in privatization and subsequently the malaise and rot that transpired in all PHCN transactions and contracts. It may be silent. EFCC may not have quizzed you on that, but Rufai has questions to answer in this regard.

Back to the back and forths between Aare and Rufai. If you (Aare) used ''uncouth'' word on Rufai's page, he will not be doing wrong if he blocked you. I remember that Femi-Fani Kayode also blocked me from his wall about 3 months ago for saying the truth and been within reasonable politeness. No surprise here though as both (Rufai and FFK) were seen as attack-dogs of OBJ. If they are not open to fair criticism, they do not deserve any political/administrative positions.

Finally to you Aare, I know your works and I know how I am also drawn by passion to use 'uncouth' words as some have said. In all, I have learnt to tamper my words (hopefully) so that my fight can continue.

Prove Babangida Wrong

In an interview with ThisDay, Ibrahim Babangida said he is running for President in 2011 because the next generation is incapable of managing the country. The former dictator said: "Because we have seen signs that they are not capable of leading this country and so we feel we should help them. May be they are not given the proper education that is why."

If we are to take what the retired general says at face value, the first question that should be asked is "in what country was this generation educated?" If in Nigeria, the next question is "who was running the country and its educational system at the time?" Can a man who ruled this nation from 1985 to 1993, a period during which any Nigerian between the ages of 20 and 45 passed through SOME school, cast aspersions on our education without indirectly attacking himself? Was General Babangida not the one in charge as our Universities lurched from crisis to crisis? Was it not he who oversaw the fall of those hallowed institutions into the hands of the secret societies, and was that very rise in cult activity not a result of his governent's attempts to undermine the "radical" activism of students and lecturers? Was it not under Babangida and the economic crisis he haplessly engineered that we saw the emigration of lecturers, teachers, doctors, engineers and other professionals to greener pastures abroad? So is General Babangida now saying that he should lead the country because he helped impair the younger generation's ability to do so?

The General continues: " a country like Nigeria cannot be ruled by people without experience." He gives the example of Obama in the USA, who he points out climbed up the political ladder, from state legislature all the way to the Presidency, gaining experience as he went. "If our youths are like this," he posits, "we will say they have the requisite experience. But we have not reached that level."

And whose fault is that, General? In order for people to get the kind of experience IBB describes, those political posts must be available. IBB, it must be said, ushered in the Third Republic, and for about a half-decade Nigerians had the chance to "play politics", election after election, all the executive and legislative posts were filled incrementally from the ward level, up to LGA and State. This progress of course came to a halt when a certain someone decided to annul a perfectly good presidential election, leave the transition in limbo, and hand over power to a weak, unelected and unpopular civilian government, perfect prey for an Abacha coup. From 1993 to 1998 there was no TRUE democracy. Five years of wasted continuity. And who was that certain someone who annulled the elections and left the Third Republic to its fate? General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

If the new generation lacks leadership experience, General Babangida is partly to blame. However, the argument itself does not hold water. The irony is lost on the General that the very Obama he uses as an example was criticized by all his opponents in the lead-up to the American elections for his lack of experience. That is the old saw that ancient politicians always use against the new breed. Mr Obama's response was always to point out that experience is no substitute for good judgment - to put it in Nigerian terms "the wisdom of Solomon has nothing to do with the age of Methuselah. IBB, the Methuselah par-excellence of Nigerian politics - proves this point to a tee. He has repeatedly exercised extremely poor judgment both in and out of power. Shall we highlight some of his goofs?

-Giving his personal endorsement for the now-AWOL President Yar'Adua, a man he knew to be extremely ill, since he knew him personally.
-Annulling the June 12th 1993 elections, and then handing over power to an impotent Ernest Shonekan.
-Mismanaging the Gulf War oil windfall.
-Killing Vatsa.
-Allowing his administration to repeatedly detain Messrs Gani Fawehinmi and Ken Saro-Wiwa for no discernible offense.
-The Dele Giwa fiasco.
-The stalled Ajaokuta Steel Mills
-Implementing 6-3-3-4, and putting Nigeria's school system out of synch with most of the English speaking world.
-Welcoming Blaise Campaore after the assassination of Sankara.
-Comijng to power via military coup with a promise to hand over to a democratically elected government, which he then failed to do.

Experienced? Sure. Wise? Debatable. That a man who left office under a cloud, with Nigeria's economy worse than he found it, can decide to run for election is a matter of nerve. For him to feel comfortable insulting a whole generation of Nigerians is a matter of gall. It speaks volumes about the lack of respect he has for the average Nigerian's intelligence, self-respect and bravery that he would dare make this statement. And he just about admits this in another comment: " I have spent 17 years since I left office.
Haba! The younger generation is supposed to be in charge by now." Very true, General. The halls of power should have fewer "old faces" in them right now. For a multitude of reasons, younger Nigerians have allowed the very same people who destroyed the country to remain in power. IBB sees this, and has decided that if we cannot oust his cronies, stooges and forebears, then he can surely impose himself on us with little resistance. My fellow Nigerians, we have to prove him wrong. For the sake of our dignity, and any chance to take control of this country once and for all, we have to make a stand here today, and tell the man who said we cannot run this country, "Neither Can You".

Like I said before my stories are not the most interesting in the world but today was a new low....okay maybe not so much.

Why do people hate, why would someone want anoda to be unhappy and uncomfortable even though it doesn't add to or diminish ur pleasure or standard or whatever it is.

I witnessed something today, its so funny i don't even know how to go about explaining.... oh well, i'll try

I have this friend, a colleague actually, who got an....let me start from the very beginning

When an intern is employed, the hospital is supposed to provide accommodation for him/her, but for some reason my friend didn't get and its worse for him cos he knows no one, its a new town, he just felt like exploring somewhere new in 9ja (a decision i'm sure he's no so pleased with, i refuse to use the word REGRET cos he doesn't believe in it --- anoda story some other time).
So he doesn't get one, but as luck would have have it, he meets anoda intern willing to give up his in return for the monthly charge. My friend is delihghted, its an offer from heaven (or so he thought) and he takes it forgetting that other guy is finishin a cool 8 weeks before him.

So time flies and then with my friend havin just one more week to go, this dude comes lookin for the key, he needs to submit to sign out and get full registration..yada yada yada... He wants my friend to move out of the apartment. "but i have just a week lef"t he explains to him "cant u just hold for anoda week, its not like u need the certificate immediately"
"I just want to submit the key now and do my clearance"
"okay take the key, submit it, i'll let myself in with a spare"
"noooo, u have to move out of the room, they wld want to inspect the room"
"they wouldn't just go"

he calls my paddy on the less than 10mins l8r and he wants him to come and move his things bcos the guys really want to inspect the room. So my paddy goes over, he's angry now bcos this is the first time in his 47week stay that he's hearing something like dat (new policy he called).
So he gets back, sees the 'landlord" and goes straight to point (like he's been known to do weneva he' annoyed at something) "where's the accommodation guy"
"wat do u want from" he inquires
"I need to talk to him"
"I've already expalined it to him he doesn't want to hear it" he says dat and tries diff other tricks to stop me meetin the man.

well finally my paddy meets the man, explains he's situation in less than 3 sentences and he gets the week of grace he was asking. the dude reluctantly gives the keys back.

He wanted my paddy out, he was pure selfish

and subtle as it may sound, it got me thinking, the reason behind the sheer case of being unreasonable and ultimately wicked

God deliver me from their hands

The Internet is teeming with web hosting providers and buying web hosting reliable and affordable web hosting service can sometimes become a daunting task given the astronomical number of web hosting companies out there. A few steps and preliminary homework would help you choose the right provider and save you probable loss of money and effort put in. Whether you are looking for online presence, sharing information or creating an online business, a reliable web hosting solution naturally becomes indispensable in order to achieve this. A powerful web hosting solution offers all-inclusive features and benefits that facilitates downloading, browsing and prompt updating of your website in minimal time.

An e-commerce enabled website would require advanced features as well as high end security and the customer needs to ensure in advance that the web hosting company is well equipped to handle these aspects. Once you have zeroed down on the web hosting company, it is wise to analyze the various packages offered with their corresponding features and benefits, the fee structure, any kind of hidden fee involved, their terms and conditions etc. Mentioned below are a few important aspects to be considered when buying web-hosting services:

Disk Space and Bandwidth

It is important to ascertain in advance as to how much disk space or the amount of storage your website would require. This specific amount of storage or disk space is offered by the hosting company and is dependent on the type of package you choose. The bandwidth equates to the amount of traffic that your website would receive. It is important to note here that greater the traffic your website receives, greater is the bandwidth required. Also, more graphics and downloads from your website implies higher storage and higher bandwidth for your website.
Operating System and Programming Tools

You need to make sure that the web hosting company utilizes highly secure servers and the latest operating system, in order to upload your website. Most web hosts run on a UNIX based operating system, usually Linux or BSD. ASP, .NET, MS SQL, SBS and others are required for running various web applications and a web-based host is the best solution to achieve this.

Hosting coupons blog is dedicated to providing regularly updated web hosting coupons, offers, deals, webhost discounts, hosting rebates and exclusive promotions from the hostgator coupon companies - webcalendar, hostgator diamond plan and hostgator gold plan services

It is vital to compare and analyze the various pricing structures of different web hosting companies and the corresponding features and benefits attached with their respective hosting packages. Do not be deluded by the fact that higher pricing equates to better services and features. Many affordable web-hosting providers offer quality and superior services. It is only wise to go in for a company that has been around for a while.

Uptime, security, backup and support

Most of the web-hosting providers offer 24/7 customer support through toll free or local numbers. An e-commerce enabled website required high-end security features at all times. This aspect cannot be ignored or overlooked in order to ensure smooth and hassle free web site hosting. Also ensure that the company offers 99% to 99.9% uptime guarantee with all their hosting packages.
