Marie Claire (a UK magazine), I saw a top made with 'ankara' by GAP selling for £39.44 and another one by TOP SHOP.

Does it mean, finally, african prints have now been accepted or what?

well..seen plenty african prints around a long while back.. its not just a "now" thing.

ankara made into styles like halter neck/b-tube and worn on jeans - being sold in high street stores.
