stylish short hair

any ideas on what one can do to short hair to make it stylish? i mean real short hair (like toni braxton's back in the day)... are there any new trends?

when i had my hair short...nearly baldheaded...i liked the spiky look...i hate the ghetto trend with a lot of curls in it...u know when the curl every piece with the curling iron...i hated that..every two weeks i had my hair treated so the back was super smooth...and then my stylist on the top would curl strands here or there and put a pomade to make it look wavy spiky...
