Colored Stones vs: Diamonds?

What are your thoughts on using colored stones in your engagement/wedding rings? We have been finding more and more clients who have been purchasing colored stones (Tourmaline/Zircon/Topaz) for their rings to save money on the wedding overall or just to have something different.

Thoughts?

Dont think I'd mind an emerald one, long as it looks great and is well constructed...
