But then again, why not just take the plunge and install Linux entirely? Simply Mepis is excellent for people just migrating from Windows...

Guys I appreciate it. Thank u
Right now I'm browsing NR on PCLinuxOS using Vmware. ![]() I'm really doing some experimentations...not familiar with all these stuff. I just love fiddling with linux but I pledge allegiance to XP. Just doing it for the love of it. I have 2 computers, this laptop now is a newer one, my older one is a desktop...slow as fuck. got all them connected. The slow one already is dualled up with XP (which is a Strain on it since it's a 128Mb 533Mhz PC -Yeh Old school shit-) and Puppy Linux. Puppy Linux doesnt detected all the hardware and I'm finding it hard to set it up in network to this one, which brings me to this question...how do u set up a connection between a linux computer and an XP computer? Someone mentioned Samba but it's hard for me to understand it. Also, will Vmware work on that kind of old computer or is it suicide?

You can read up on Samba here. As for excellent hardware detection and ability to run on low spec systems, don't look beyond Vector Linux...

Yeh I figured it was a suicide mission when i put a little bit more thought into it after all my efforts got dashed.
As for what to run on my old pc, I have tested them all, Vector, DSL and Puppy...Puppy came out tops and so far it runs well dual booted on my other PC...if I can figure out a way to run it, connect my ext hd to it and sync it up with my Laptop here, that'd be Eden...till then...I'd keep experimenting Thanks guys for the help!

To connect the external hard drive, connect it, then type
Code:
ls usb Code:
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive I believe you've been able to connect with Samba, there are software tools that enable you see a Linux partition from Windows, I forget the names since I use Linux almost exclusively now...
