Dont reinstall.
What you have is an MBR issue. (Master Boot Record) Or if you're dual booting linux and Windows, you installed Linux grub wrong and there's a conflict with the 2 OS's. Easy fix would be to pop in your install cd, as in your Windows XP cd, and let it fire up then go to the Recovery Mode option. then type in this command "fixmbr" That should do it.
