But Non Muslims should understand why it's important to respect National symbols (Islamic Nations). For Christians for instance, even people aren't named 'Jesus'. And when I tell people I was named Jesus= Isa, they look at me with very bad eye.

This is just a misunderstanding. The woman never called the teddy Mohammed. Her student asked her if he could call his teddy Mohammed just like his name. She should be released right away cos she never did anything wrong.

I am opposed to innocent people suffering for the misdeeds of some group of people. The confusing part of the whole tragedy is that almost all the time these perpetrators (terrorists) have Muslim names? They profess to be the true Mohammed followers (not budha, hindu or any other religion). Unfortunately, most innocent people who are being arrested in these investigations are Muslims… not too far fetched but sad. Added to these is the fact that the not so extreme [fanatic] Muslim disown them (extremists) publicly but applaud them in private - which raises a lot of questions about Islam.

However, that has nothing to do with the story on this thread – the woman being unjustly punished for naming a teddy bear.

So there is no limit to what we can do, say or name? So you believe there are just no boundaries of sensitivity that the crossing of may incure incarceration?

Are you against punishment for and do u argue in defense of people who call gays- faggots?

What part of 'respect/evade or just keep away from referring to our revered statutes', do you not understand?

If other faiths die and punish to protect people from disrespecting flags, bills(legal tenders=money), nicknaming gays faggots, and to Muslims their revered items are articles of their faith, what part of understanding and respecting other Nations and cultures ideals do u not understand/do you desperately wish to violate?

When I was younger I used to have a friend (a girl) who missed me so much when I was away to go to school that she named a teddy bear after my name. In my absence, she would hug the teddy bear and say good-nite before going to sleep. I saw it as a great compliment and I was flattered by it. Apparently, the culture in Sudan (or the in the Islamic world) is different but I am yet to see anyone get punished for naming their teddy bear (Abdul) or any other Muslim names. Are there not people out there by the name of Mohammed?

It is derogatory to call a gay person ‘faggot’ just as a white man calling a black man ‘nigga’ is considered to be sourly disparaging…but these analogies don’t apply in this case. You can believe Mohammed was the holiest person on the face of the earth - you have the right to do so. I don’t think you should be incarcerated for such belief. In a free society or in a country that endeavors to build a free society I believe a flag should not only be the symbol of allegiance; the right that you have as a Citizen to use the flag as your bed sheet should be the same you have to exercise and burn it in protest. The statement that the principles of a free society can be idealized in the world of Islam seems paradoxical. However, i believe there's a way you can express a difference of opinion without violently conveying your disagreement or inflicting pain on the other person to show your disdain for their stance.

Thereupon he (the Prophet (saas)) said: "Ziyad, do these Jews and Christians not recite the Torah and the Bible but not act according to what is contained in them?" (Ahmad, Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi)
