He said it for a time. It wasn't a permanent proposition to the world. He was only speaking to and for the wicked, wicked Jews of his time. You must note that he kept reminding his disciples NOT TO TAKE THOSE/HIS MESSAGES OUT OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY. The Jews were so mean, that if he said- ' when they slap you slap them equally back but do not exceed what they did', or if He said as God earlier in Moses' time commanded, that they should take an eye for an eye, these so wicked Jews would have taken an eye and a throat for an eye. Hence he told them to not even take anything back to pet and calm them with far left wing preaching, till a time when God will send another Spirit of truth, or messenger of truth (Al Amin in arabic), comforter ( translated-Muhammadan in arabic) to reinstate equal realistic central laws.

It was a temporary extreme advise for a most wicked tribe.

Turning the other cheek means not responding to insults...it doesn't mean that you shouldn't defend yourself like the white christians tell to blk folks

He did mean it...for that people and that time. Different messengers come at special seasons(pisces etc) to give unique variations of the one path that apply to that particular time.{N.B- it is of note that only Prophet Muhammed PBUH during his life time said his message was for all times and all mankind}

The Sabbath was given to the Jews for a time, for certain promises and acts they had with God, and then it expired.

Jesus' time was a time of cooling. Note, he was the only messenger who never had a big army, fought a big war etc. Not by coincidence, he was in the cooling era, cooling rabid Jews.

Notice later, to affirm he knew exactly what he had said, when it was time for a new decree on battle he said- 'befor did I tell and arm you with all u needed', they said 'yes', he then said,-' well now, you are about to learn the next lesson, he who has money take it, and he who doesn't sell you clothes and buy a sword.' and they did and showed him 2 swords, which he evaluated as being enough for the few guards he projected where coming for him.

So we see at this point he emphasized that though b4 u were adequate as 'turn-the-other-cheekers', now, at certain times like this, you can only be adequate as 'prepared-for-battle-ers'.

Two systems for different peoples at different times. They do not conflict they are just seperate and situational. Prophet Muhammed too did same, he is faimed for the largest battle victory when he ensured he and his people went right to the battle site/enemy with not a single weapon in peace mission. Some situations, times, people and psychologies warant turning the other cheek and some do not.

Yeshua was not the only messenger to never fight. Buddha never fought in any army, neither did Zoroaster.

I agree with you that Yeshua never said that one should not fight, but I am saying that in that particular passage, he was speaking of revenge, since getting slapped was considered an insult in that culture.
