DJ Kofi


DJ Kofi is one of the UK’s most exciting musical exports. From his home base in London he has blazed a trail for aspiring Eclectic and Hip Hop DJs, taking the art-form to another level with his innovative approach to both DJing and production. In 2007, this humble and down-to-earth DJ-producer is taking his craft to the next level, expanding and diversifying his musical repertoire to include different musical styles. No musical genre is off limits to Kofi; if it works at a party or in the club, expect Kofi to spin it. This willingness to experiment has seen Kofi attract a new legion of fans with his mashed-up sets incorporating Funk, Rock, House, Afrobeat and whatever else he finds in his Serato crates.

Bursting from the underground in 1995 on the back of his win in the UK DMC Championships, Kofi went on to practice his skills with the Roc Raider and the X-Men In NYC, an experience Kofi says ‘taught me the precision of one of the most important aspects of the art form’.

A graduate from the University of Westminster majoring in music business, Kofi moved on to become Events Manager for the Afro Caribbean Society (ACS), a role where he further honed his party promoting skills. Using both his education and ability behind the decks to mould a new and exciting style of DJing, Kofi became a well-known and equally well-liked party regular.

After several guest stints on BBC Radio 1 and Kiss FM and a 5-year running mix on the ‘Mid Morning Jam’ Choice FM, Kofi landed his own show, ‘The After Party’ on Choice FM, where he attracted a new fan base and further expanded his musical tastes and stylings. As Kofi explains, having his own show was ‘…a dream come true’. ‘I could do what I liked; I had complete freedom’, he said.

Since then Kofi has worked tirelessly on both his DJing and production. His unique productions have wowed crowds the world over and he has produced for the likes of Blackstreet, Relentless Records, Rawkus Records, Universal, Sony and Def Jam. He has played alongside the likes of Ja Rule, Ludacris and Ashanti, and produced a video mix for Michael Jackson’s ‘Invisible’ launch party as well as hosting end of tour parties for the Fugee’s Lauryn Hill and Jay-Z.

Reinforcing his willingness to experiment with different genres, Kofi featured on Simon Webs latest LP ’. He has appeared on Top Of The Pops, Smash Hits Pole Winners’ Party, MTV Networks Europe/Africa/Baltic, BBC Radio 1, Capital Nickelodeon and television shows in Europe and Africa. He has also appeared in Wyclef and Brian Harvey’s hugely successful single ‘Loving You’ and Blue’s ‘Fly By’.

His remixes and mash-ups of tracks have become legendary. Nirvana vs Eminem’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit Without Me’, Kanye West vs Maroon 5’ ‘Diamond Love’ and Pharrell vs The White Stripes’ ‘Like That’ have all had dancefloors rammed, while his forthcoming productions including ‘Rock Da Party’ featuring Fatman Scoop will no doubt take Kofi’s star even higher.

Possessing a keen sense of social responsibility, Kofi has invested a lot of his time into nurturing up and coming DJ talent. ‘The work I do with young people is extra special,’ Kofi explains. ‘I work with kids who have basically been written off. I try to win them over with DJing and give them some sort of hope. My attitude is ‘let’s forget what you’ve done and let’s just have fun with this DJing thing’.

Over the past two years Kofi has blown crowds away around the world, including successful stops in USA, Australia, China, Taiwan, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and extensively throughout Europe. He recently rocked The World Economic Forum In Switzerland hosted by MTV President Bill Rodey and Warner Music Group President Lyor Cohen.
In-between touring the world and producing Kofi found time to rock some of London’s most exclusive clubs which include Auto-mat, Movida, Bijou, Aura, 24 and Volstead to name but a few.

Kofi and his production company Turntable Entertainment Ltd is currently developing a Magazine style TV show based on his tours and has some major networks interested in the show.
