The so-called Delta Igbo isn't one large group of people all residing in one area. They are dispersed around Delta State and people call them Delta-Igbo based on their language. However, they aren't all from the same ethnic group.

allow people to pick what they want nah...but from my understanding though..
Delta state is a mix of various tribes such as igbos of asaba, ibuzo, ogwashiuku, isele uku, umunede, etc. but the truth is that among these areas they have different dialects that is built around igbo language. in the same delta, u have tribes such as urhobo, kwale, itshekiri, isoko, ijaw, etc. who do not speak igbo language. however, when the religious riots break out in northern nigeria, they got slaugthered as igbos too! when it comes to securing federal appointments, the delta igbos of asaba etc will not want to be called igbos because it limits their own opportunities.

Ndokwa used the be the sole local govt for all Ukwuani people. Now we have LGA such as: Ndokwa east, Ndokwa West, Ukwuani :LGAs, the people of this area as all still referred to as Ndokwa people.
Ukwuani and Kwale are often used interchangeably. For example I can say something like: That man is an Ukwuani man -> That man speaks Ukwuani or I met a Kwale person on the bus -> He spoke frequent Kwale. I think Ukwuani is the preferred term though, especially when referring to the Language. Quote:

just dey remember this delta dude that said that it was not in their collective interest to be tagged igbos cos to be igbo in nigeria today is largely a liability so being called igbo is not desirable. before the war in nigeria, everyone of those groups would have signed up as igbos....

Thanks for the explanation, AriChenna. Now, as for you Wendy, it looks like you do not understand the concept of big and small. Stop comparing Igbo people to other smaller ethnic groups. There are millions of you so the ethnic group encompasses not just numerous LGAs but numerous states as you well know. For some of us other smaller groups, our entire ethnic group is restricted to our LGA. Isoko used to be just one LGA but now were are two... still we are the same people. Still the same ethnic group. Adachi, don't make assumptions that everyone of them would have considered themselves Igbo b4 the war.
