Default Sewing: Seams

What kinda Seams do y'all use?

I tried the Overlock and the double overlock and they make my material gather. French seams are too much work. I hate that I have to iron seams.

Anyways I'm thinking about just sticking to straight seams.

P.S. How do i get my sewing to be straighter?

Holding the fabric down to make sure that the dog feed is grasping the material as you go is the best way. But it is very important though to set the stitch right. Usually loose for light fabrics etc...

I've never used overlocking stitches so I can't help there. Maybe you have the tension setting on the wrong thing (too high or too low). Try adjusting that.

French seams are neater, but take too much time and requires too much extra measuring. Instead, if the fabric frays a lot, I usually just use a zig zag along the edges of my seams, before beginning to sew. Otherwise, I just cut and sew straight seams.

To keep my seam straight I went very slowly until I got the hang of sewing. I also use the seam guides by the presser foot. Keep your eye on a straight line, and make sure the edge of the fabric stays along that line.

i do it the hard way, fold my edges and do a straight seam.
it's always advisable to test out your stitches with scrap fabric. that's a contrasting color to your thread so you can see better.
Don't be afraid to play around with the settings, that's the best way to get a hang of your settings.
And while you're practising, you'll learn how to make a straight line

OK...the Fashion Forum......

About seams......hmmmmmm....as per the question again..... practice sewing a straight line by hand with needle and thread....that way you can get better with your eye-hand coordination of use a short cut...use ruler to draw a line with an invisible fading pen and sew along the line till U get comfortabel doing ti yourself...with no aid.
