Get your own dirt!!

One day, a group of brilliant scientists had a discussion about the immense knowledge that mankind had acquired. It was decided that humans no longer needed God, so they appointed the most senior scientist to go tell God that man was through with Him.

The scientist walked up to God and said, "Sir, mankind has decided that it no longer needs you. We have reached an immense level of intellectual and technological growth and are ready to be independent.

God listened very patiently and kindly to the man. When he was done speaking, God said........very well, to test your skill and knowledge, let's see you create a man from dirt.........just like Adam.The scientist said, "sure, no problem," then he bent down and grabbed a large handful of dirt.

God smiled then said, "no, no, no, get your OWN dirt!"

"God is dead!"

Thus spoke Zarathustra, "You're the man now, doG."

Kag...gosh...I believe in God & everything but I love you. When you write, you produce a fresh air of objectivity that often lacks in this forum. We don't have to agree...but the love is there.

religion (mostly always) is hinged on some form of dogmatism. the adherent has some faith that something indeed happen and that thing is worth believing in.

the antonymn is objectivity.
they really do not go together.

I disagree. It is possible to hold to a position dogmatically and still be objective, even if it from time to time. One example that springs immediately to mind is the many religious theologians and scientists that are capable of not only listening to and understanding the views of those that are different from theirs, but also do not misrepresent the position of the other groups. Also, many are capable of changing from dogmatically held views because of objectivity.

I guess what I'm trying to say is objectivity is not the opposite of dogmatism, and I'm capable of being objective even though I'm not dogmatic (it's true, ask my God).

Every body has a personal god, whether they believe it or not. Whatever you can't live without (or think you can't live without), that sustains you, that keeps you going ...that gives your life purpose and meaning, is your god. Most athiests, i think, do not believe in the all knowing, all powerful, creator God that most religions adhere to.

From what I have seen, its not that athiests don't believe in God, they just believe in how we define Him/Her/It. Most athiests dont' believe in a God with human attributes that is really no better than its creation. However, if you were to define God as the energy force that holds the universe together, then that would be a definition that they would agree with.

Yes.
They usually got there due to wrong low impressions of God they were taught by the misinformed religionist.. that they were too smart to buy..and then they shut off.

Most atheists actually are people hurt from some bad experience, people who believe they had such a serious let down for no right reason earlier in life ..and that God didnt answer them when they pleaded for His help. So they actually pursue firmly a faith of opposition/rejection...fighting God. Becoming so faithfully dogmatic in their religious rituals of rejection, and worship of a no-god/anti-God god.
