Default Having Problems accessing my MAC Address

someone please help!

...if i enter ipconfig /all at the command line...

I get this as a reply:

"command wrongly spellt or could not be found"

if i try over: control panel --> network connections...etc

i dont get past network connections.....all i see is an empty window.....

i have a feeling some system file is corrupted......

i can go online without problems, and everything else works fine as well....

all i need is this ethernet address so i can register a software licence.

is there any way i can fix this...or is there some other way i can find out my MAC Addy?

thx in advance

-C.

Click run and then type in CMD.

When you get the comand prompt window type in Ipconfig.

It should come up.

it could happen when u uninstall apps that change your dialup/network settings like those stupid setup discs that you get when you sign up for new internet service. most ppl dont know they dont have to use them.

thanks for the input guys.....

@abamade
no i did not install any setup discs.
did not change network settings either.

(dialup ???
does anyone still use dialup?)

no extra software, no unnecessary stuff. (except my Wireless adapter driver -and thats attatched to a USB port)

and, no i dont think its the network adapters 'cause i tried doin "ipconfig" in safe mode --> no show!

@djmightymike

i tried to follow your advice:

Quote:

follow this link in the MS site:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

you have to open up the command line and then execute the following instructions.

1. to open the command line, click start -> run, then type in cmd inside the box. the command screen should open (it's a blk screen).

2. next type in the following:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

reboot your pc.

That should reset your tcp/ip stack back to the original operating system settings.

make sure you're running under an admin account. let me know if that helps, otherwise it could be a more serious problem.

thanks a mil for the reply bro!

how exactly do i do this?

-C.
it doesnt even recognise the "netsh" command. so what next?

(again: my current problem is actually finding out the ethernet address... is there any other way of finding this out?)

are you able to connect to the internet? if so, then perhaps it's got nothing to do with your adapters. your cmd sounds hosed since it cant even recognize any cmd. does it even recognize cls?

Windows does not keep mac ids of network adapaters in the registry, so no luck there.

The easiest way to determine your mac woulda been thru network props or ipconfig, but since that is hosed up. Another idea i was gonna try was thru ARP from a remote machine, but that only gets you the mac id of your pc, and not the adapter.

hey try using system restore, maybe it will clear things up. goodluck

there's another way to get mac/physical addresses in winxp ... run "getmac" from the command line .. without the quotes of course.

okay, i think the problem is that your environment variables are screwed up.

go to the command prompt and run this c:\windows\system32\ipconfig /all

you can even copy and paste into the command prompt .... and that's assuming C: is the drive storing our windows folder.

if that works, then post back and i can tell you how you fix your environment variables.
