This Question arose during a conversation with a friend then I came on Nr and saw a new poem posted by a member. The topic of the poem was very interesting and quite inspirational but the structure and setup was confusing. i started to wonder just what is poetry? does it vary depending on its creator? must it rhyme? must it flow? should it be universal? is free verse more powerful then fixed form? what are your thoughts on some of the questions i've brought about or better yet whats your definition of poetry?
We all know what the dictionary definition is but i wanna know what ya'll poets feel deep within....shit get poetic with it if you must...just lemme know what u think.

To me poetry is anything that comes out, straight out of the soul, I'm an amature in the field, I started out trying to rhyme verses all the time, but omitting the message I was really trying to deliver because I liked the compliments I got from people who saw my work.
I did this till I actually started becoming more of a reader and thinker and I've improved since then. My opinion, free verse is really nice, but structure is very powerful, with that you can really suck in your audience, free verse can often sound like a journal entry which is very (blah) cliche' but structure does otherwise.
