Just put the CD in your box. It is a live CD by default and will not install unless you ask it to.

The beauty of a live CD is that you get a chance to test your system under default conditions.

You mean burn the ISO on a CD and run it from there? I'll give it a shot. Also--do the regular p2p programs work with Ubuntu/Linux or are there different bittorrent/limewire etc. equivalents out there?

The 'regular' P2P programs come in the .exe extension which doesn't work on Linux. Linux however has a cute java based bit torrent client called Azerus...

I think you can also get a version of u-torrent for Linux, but I'm not sure.

Default Block 3rd party cookies in IE7

If you are worried about privacy, you’ll probably be worried about 3rd party cookies. Those are the cookies placed on your computer by doubleclick and all those nefarious places. IE7 makes it easier to block them.

To get to this setting, go to Tools \ Options \ Privacy and then click on Advanced.

Just check the box for Override automatic cookie handling, and then select Block on the Third-party cookies radio button. All done!

Default What distro?

There are so many Linux distributions (distros) out there, based on the philosophy of the owner of said distro. A lot of people who want to make the transition from Windows to Linux tend to be put off by the sheer number of distros. "Which one suits me?" Truth be told, it is impractical to expect a n00b to go about testing distros in order to find which one suits him. People get tired.

I bumped into this test a few weeks back, and having tried it so many times, I keep getting the same results. And the funny thing is this: the distros the test tells me would suit me, are the distros that I actually like, and use.

Not exactly a scientific test, but fairly accurate. My own results are in the picture below:

If you want to make the transition from Window$, I recommend you take the test. It will save you a lot of work...

Currently supported distros are:
Arch Linux
Ark Linux
Debian
Fedora Core
Foresight Linux
Gentoo
Knoppix
Kubuntu
Linspire
Mandriva
MEPIS
OpenSuSE
PCLinuxOS
Slackware
Ubuntu
Xandros
Yellowdog Linux

one of the worst features of firefox. there should be an option to password protect the password manager. cant save passwords cos all it takes i someone that knows where to look. wonder if there's an extension that takes care of that.

Nice thread
Perhaps I missed this on the other posts, but what are the system requirements for Ubuntu(In short, will it work with a 486?).How does it compare to Windows? Could you provide a pic of what a typical Ubuntu desktop looks like? Lastly, Chxta, do you have shares in Ubuntu are something...just asking?
