On 2007 Elections
UNITED States of America (USA) yesterday urged Nigeria to ensure successful conduct of 2007 general elections saying such was crucial to consolidating democracy and the rule of law in the latter. U.S.A Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr John Casmpbell who stated this at a press conference in Lagos said his home government has spent $15 million (N1.79 billion) in the past three years towards achieving hitch-free elections in the country next year. According to him, Nigeria could not afford to have a flawed elections considering her strategic role in Africa and global affairs just as he pledged America's continued support. Said he: "The last eight years have been very crucial. Nigeria has played crucial role in international affairs in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), workings for peace in Liberia, and quelling the crisis in Dafur region. The country Macro economic has improved and it has been a pillar of strength to other countries in Africa and other parts of the world.
