Default Nigerian historical facts

The misconception that Biafra was an Igbo war, Colonel/"Brigadier" Victor Banjo, was Commander of the Biafran Invasion Force.

huh ?

only a handful of yorubas fought on the biafran side.

biafra was an igbo war. and they had every right to seccede as far as i am concerned, provided they were not going to try to force the minorities of the south south to seccede with them.

thing is why was there a need to invade yorubaland ?

There was no "need" to invade Yorubaland--Victor Banjo was supposedly heading up a "liberation army" that would establish the Republic of Benin in the Mid-West region and an 'Oduduwa Republic' in the Western region to spread the secessionist idea across the south. Banjo was sympathetic to the Biafran cause (as were a whole range of people in the Western region, from Wole Soyinka and Bola Ige to the Agbekoya Parapo rebellion organizers), so there was a broad understanding of why the war took place. Banjo (and other Biafran leaders like Ifeajuna) were suspicious of Ojukwu's motivations and capabilities, which is why he was executed.

Historical fact #2 - That Nigeria's ethnic nationalities existed in their present form before the British came. Colonialism (and the slave trade, ironically) helped to inspire 'traditional' ethnic categories like Igbo, Yoruba, Edo etc. just as much as it inspired the concept of Nigeria.

** Wouldn't have to struggle in life

But my father didn't have the opportunity to steal otherwise I wouldn't be in diaspora searching for the proverbial green pastures.

If I'm correct the following countries recognized Biafra: Gabon, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Tanzania and Zambia, at which point they did, I dont know, but they all did.

I think France did, too. Having given up their Nigerian passports, a lot of Biafrans travelled using papers issued by those countries listed by MIprincess on their fundraising and diplomatic journeys.
