Default Consciousness

Wrote this a lil while ago. Just wanted to share it.

So is the black man really free, or is it a figure of speech
From Africa to the US the scenaries are bleek
I'm Nigerian, believe me I know them streets
Seen both sides, seen the poor seen the rich
Liked to think then I was smack in the middle
Tralleved abroad & saw I was lacking not a little
We was lacking a lot,
Ignorance is bliss so it didn't seem to matter much
On the surface we can blame bad government
But the unseen hand is the white man
I aint racist, like to think I'm open minded
try to be objective not being one sided
So my take on the issue is this
we to blame cos we all play a part in their schemes
selling out one way or the other
Loosing culture, the white man is got us brain washed
From the days of trading in slaves
it was black man selling black man, sailing away
to the new world, battered and bruised
chained and whipped, raped abused, put to work and used
(Abraham) Lincoln didn't abolish nothing, might have he thot he did
but really they jus stepped up their plotting
Centuries later we pay to be enslaved
Playing lotteries in search of better days
Plegding to the U S of A
"God's own country" The lamb like beast in prophecy
Still we dont see plot
alienating the "akata" cos they dont vibe with Us
"Just a bunch of lazy people
Quick to bring up the past, cos we can't relate to what they been through"
Till we experience it first hand
and we realize that we all jus pawns for the man
My cousin facing time for a crime he don't know nothing about
now only God can bail him out
DA wanted him to plead guilty
snitch on his friends, what they bringing us up to be
and when he said No, he wasn't playing judas
they got his friends to do the dirt cos they had something to loose
Black man selling black man, same viscous cycle
and we all caught in the middle
It's time we stepped back and saw through the bullshit
Take charge of our fate and stop making excuses
