How long do yall wear your cornrows?

I wear mine for a week, but when I take the shit out, I break/shed lots of hairs, so I am thinkin about keepin em for longer at a time to promote maximum growth. So how long do yall have it on?

What are tips for maintainin em?

ummm... a week is good. how u take it out, and how u moisturize ur hair matters too. the breakage is most likely from split ends. u need to get the ends trimmed(not cut) like once a month or every 2 months. your hair should grow like an inch at the least in a month, so split ends will take off 3/4 of an inch if untreated or sometimes an whole inch. but if you trim off like 1/8 or 1/4 a month, you will grow like 3/4 b/c you prevent split end damage. use moisturizer on the ends of ur hair, and make sure u moisturize or oil the scalp. make sure the braider gets al the strands and braids tight enough to make it neat, but not so tight that u will be losing hair. comb from the tip to the root. brush that way too. it helps the tangling. try to blowdry before you get it braided so that it doesnt tangle as much when braiding. you should be able to make it last 2 weeks if you cover it with a scarf or dew rag at night. and if u wear a shower cap when u bathe. and dont roll ur head around on the floor much. but a week is sufficient too i guess

I would leave it a week if no extra hair added, but if extra hair added, then maybe 2 or 3 weeks.

After braiding it always appears that we lose a lot of hair. Our hair sheds all the time, but when our hair is out (not braided) it falls to the floor or flys away as we are walking around. When we braid it though all the hair that would normally be shedding gets trapped in the braid so we think we've lost a lot of hair but really we haven't.

That being said, use a braid spray to moisturize it and oil your scalp at least once when you have the cornrows in.

I keep mine for 3 weeks minimum, but that's with extensions in it. You should clean your scalp with cotton wool and spirit weekly (before you grease it). It's dryness and build-up of dirt that causes hair breakage especially the hair around the fore of your head.

It is not good to clean your hair with spirit, alcohol dries ur scalp out.

If u have a good braider they should definitely last more than a week.

Also when u get em braided ...do they hurt?...if so consider changing your braider or asking em not to pull too tight... cos that is the main reason for hair breakage

There will always be some hair loss when u take em out ...but some of this occurs naturally . To tell if its natural loss or breakage look @ the ends. when hair comes out naturally it comes out with the root (i.e some white bits attached)

I usually get folks to do it for free, but then that requires calling them, making all that appointments, maybe even begging them. Maybe driving to them, waiting a few days or a week for them to have time, all sorts of monkey biness. Or I just go to the shop around the corner, have them do it for $40, and looking crisp in one hour.

Segmond you have dat good hair! nice thick and healthy...dont cornrow too much it would mess up ur hair...'member when my sides was gone?...twas cause of too much cornrow and glue...
so dont over do it..
