There was a segment once on NTA about that. There are actually a lot of similarities among the 3 major languages... i'll think of some of them cos this was like 8yrs ago.

The majority of languages spoken in southern Nigeria come from the same ancestral language, which was spoken in the Middle Belt region (probably around the Niger-Benue confluence) between 3,000-6,000 years ago. They're related through grammar, vocabulary, and syntax, so a lot of words for common things are shared, the way that many western European languages share terms through their Latin ancestry. |
