September 19, 2006 Jide Ajani, Rotimi Ajayi & John Ighodaro Abuja A HIGH-POWERED investigation panel is being constituted to probe Sunday's crash of the Dornier 228 military plane in Vandekiya local government area of Benue State, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Andrew Azazi has announced. Twelve officers including 10 generals died in the crash, with the Federal Government, yesterday, declaring three days of mourning in honour of the dead. President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, cut short his visit to Singapore to lead the mourning. Dead are: Major-Generals SO Otubu, SM Lemu, JTU Ahmedu, JO Agboola (Military Secretary), AN Bamali (GOC 2 Div), JO Adesunloye (GOC 81 Div), PM Haruna, B Duniya, Brigadier-Generals YJ Braimah, MB Bawa, Lt-Colonel NA Mohammed, Wing Commander E. O. Adekunle (Pilot). Those who survived include: Colonels AL Dusu, OC Ajunwa and NI Angbazo. President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, cut short his visit to Singapore to lead the mourning.
