You've already chosen your path (MCDBA) follow it. Buy books, study and take certification exams simple as ABC. You might want to look at market demands for MCDBAs down the road as opposed to being other type of DBAs. Overall, you're the architect of your own destiny...plan it very well.

I just did some research and it appears its extermely difficult to an entry level doing Dba, most employees frown on certificates because they want people with real life experience. Is this true?

That is very true but it certainly won't hurt to be certified. Every now and then I do see entry-level positions but certification is a stepping stone.

You are on the right track. You can't go wrong with certification and alot of hands-on practise and sample tasks and projects. goodluck

The issue of certs, degree , and experience continues, however though it should be best to get all 3. It only helps make you more markateable. The market right now is more in favor of experienced Pros, but in small businesses, non-profits, and educational institutions, there are opportunities lurking for entry level profesionals, also, if you think you know your stuff, then you might just embellish your resume a bit to give you some competitive advantage.
