i was watching more of them vids on youtube and its quite scary ...i can hear bits of yoruba in what they are saying/singing, its abit sad though how the yoruba language has been watered down with the spanish, soon you wont hear any yoruba.

Obatala? Aint he the dude that started talking immediately they birthed him, ate all the food at his naming ceremony and was beating all the elders at aayo in a few weeks. If I'm not mistaken I read the story in 'The forest of a thousand demons' Lovely book, the english translation of a yoruba fantasy book.

I think we really need to start taking pride in wut we have ....this is the kinda of thing the whites have used to brian wash pple over the years ...we have a religion or a world view that can rival those from any part of the world ...but we think it's fetish and shit so we avoid it. I think we should bring it to the fore and fight for it to be recognised ...buddhisim was one seen as occultic now it is the religion of enlightenment after it was refined and modernised..i think we should do same for our religion

It's the other way around--these are people that haven't had much direct contact with Yoruba religion since the mid- to late 1800s. This is a Cuban group, but Orisha religion is growing in virtually every country in Latin America, even those without a particularly strong Yoruba presence like Venezuela, Uruguay, Argentina etc. Brazil and Cuba are just the best-known examples, where you can take classes in Yoruba at university level and the religion has wide public recognition.
