Default CRM /ERP Process Management ..

SO uhm allthese new buzz words and money makers in IT. WHat exactly would you identfy as the differences between both. I know they are both concerned with process change but how do they differ if at all ? Is CRM a subset of an ERP ?

thanks.

Yes, CRM is a subset of ERP...ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is a collective term for softwares that helps large organizations do business effectively....the type of ERP solution an organization employs largely depends on their product line...e.g CRM is for Customer Resource Management, HCM is Human Capital Management or HR to be precise, SCM is Supply Chain Management which can be either Manufacturing or Financial Supply Chain....Usually very large organizations with substantial reach (branches) would usually deploy SCM solution....

Got it ?

Big grammer....

y'all I sell CRM...and it stands for Customer Relationship Management...not what Anygma just babbled below.

At PeopleSoft I sold CRM and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) clap for yourself Anygma...you got that one.

Difference between CRM and ERP, ERP basically connects all your in house apps; Supply Chain, Financials, HR or HCM, etc together...CRM deals with how you manage, maintain, and relate to your customers in other to serve them better thus generating more revenue. i.e Campaign management, lead gen, support etc.

Engineering to order, made to order etc....all SCM related. You only need SCM (Supply Chain Management) if your organization does manufacting, processing etc...A cleaning services company may not need SCM if they don't need to take stock of inventory, processing controls etc...the good thing is there are varying degrees of modules within each suit that can help a company so really it all depends on what the company does, their needs, and what they are hoping to achieve before you recommend a solution.

Got it?

ERP is an idea that integrates department software rather than having them separate. In the old days if you needed finance to get something you went to the finance office. If you needed an order placed you went to their office. But now, with ERP, "ERP vanquishes the old standalone computer systems in finance, HR, manufacturing and the warehouse, and replaces them with a single unified software program divided into software modules that roughly approximate the old standalone systems. "

This of ERP as MS Office.

Office is a productivity suite, ERP same, but at an enterprise level.

Different aspects fall into ERP and applications to satisfy them such as customer relationship mgmt (CRM), supply chaim mgmt (SCM), Materials Management (MM), Human Resources Mgmt (HRM), Logistics & Distribution, etc

All play a role in helping you Plan your Enterprise Resources.
