this is EXCELLENT. i think it should be a sticky even. but one prob i have is when i go to black beauty supply stores i pay $2 more for the exact same product. i guess the koreans get it cheaper, but i also know the black owners mark the price up more

halleluyah! something is finally being done, just like it took these people 40 years to penetrate we will surely get it back. i thought i was the only one complaing about why i have togive my money to chinko and mexicans?
if a BOBSA owned store opens up in my neighborhood best believe i will pay the extra $5.00

I thought it was very interesting. Where I live almost all the beauty supply stores are black owned, but then some of their products I can find cheaper at Walmart or a local drug store.
I mean sometimes I'm tempted to just go and buy stuff where it's cheaper, but then I think it's only $2! Big deal. I agree that if we do support black owned stores, then we see the rewards of that by their community involvement (be it hiring blacks to work at the store, or sponsoring community events). However the non-blacks (in this case the Korean owned stores) don't reciprocate our support of their business by giving us jobs or by sponsoring our local events or charities. Wasn't it crazy how the distributors completely stopped supplying to the black own stores. No wonder it's more expensive when we go to the black owned stores. I mean if they can't even get local distributors to sell to them because they are not Korean, then the black stores are probably forced to order in from distributors/wholesalers who are further away/overseas, thus increasing their costs which they in turn have no other choice but to pass on to us, the consumer. That's probably why they charge more. They have fewer options. The whole thing is just messed up. It really opened my eyes. I will be more conscious of where I purchase products now. |

i have not seen those documentaries but based on replies --my own problem is this :
why the hell are black people NOT manufacturing their own hair products ????? are we not the ones whose hair it is for ?? and of course we know our hair better -- we should own the damn black hair supplies industry !!!

nice post. I think the issue of mistrust of black owned salons needs to be taken into consideration as well. Things may be different in the US, but in my city, some black people will see a product in a black-owned store for almost double the price versus wal-mart or a korean-owned store. Usually, the automatic assumption is that the black owners are being greedy and inflate the prices for their own benefit.
All in all, it's definitely something to consider and keep in mind when shopping. |

i never thought possible, but around my area there are no black owned hair shops, they are all owned by asians.
i dont really kno wot to do now bcoz i am not willing to travel far jus to get miscellaneous hair care products, the black people should use this to empower themselves and instead of moaning, open up shop.
