Backing up your Ipod

Hey techies,
I need to backup my ipod.i have too many songs that are irreplaceable. What is the best way to go about it? Do I need to buy an ipod copier?

Thanks a bunch, tho it was a trial version and copied half of my music...it's still a lot of something!
