Default biggest annoyances with black hair dressers

i want to get some opinions about this subject. my main problem is with over charging for work that is not the best. (please no comments about dominicans) i don't have many choices in places to go, so i can't just up & switch dressers. also charging too much for a simple trim. once upon a time it was free for trims. they should want to do it for the health of your hair.

speaking of which, they don't seem to care about hair health much. only about styling & charging too much

over charging and wack hairstyles is also my main gripe with them, which is why i switched to braiding my hair, and when i'm tired imma cut the the thing off and use texturizer. i don't have money to be increasing someone else's stock portfolio

LIAR

I havent been to a black hair dresser in maybe 6 years. Yes they over charge you for everything and dont even know what is good for your hair. they are always quick to point out how you need a perm, and then they dump some garbabge in ur hair. then they want to give you some xmas tree looking hairstyle.
Dominicans- i didnt perm my hair for over two year and she always blew dry it straight. My ends were never excessively split, because she used good conditioner on it. She didnt butcher my hair when i asked for my ends clipped.
- The major problem i have noticed with dominicans is that they are not too good at doing short hair cuts.

Try Ethiopian onr Algerian or Morrocan hairdressers ( they do my hair in Dubai and they seem to know what they are doing).
Domincans are still good though. they are my preference.

Ah, see how you call me out now... But I did go only to Dominicans when I used to perm my hair. Now that I cut my hair and went natural, I don't go to the hair saloon that often. I've been a couple of times to trim my hair but I went to Aveeda to do it. It's not as expensive as people thought and it's just a trim and it was a white guy who did it..

I must confess I have been having bad experience with salons and hair braiders since I moved to the US. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to get my hair nicely done when I got here, you know like they look on TV. But that has been a big disappoint so far, none of the salons whether the black ones or the Dominican ones have been able to relax my hair well. They do it and after a week it looks like they didn't relax it. I want to believe my hair is difficult to relax but if my mom or my friends without hair training can do it, I don't see why people who supposedly went to school for it can't do the job. And believe me I have been to over 10 salons in NY alone.

Does anyone know of a Nigerian, Ghanaian or Cameroonian (English speaking part ppl) that braids or relax hair well in NYC area?

i know of a dominican that does good perms. i will give you her info once i can get it.
Also use mizani perms ( doesnt burn ur scalp, so you will get enough time for it to sit in your hair).

pebbles i'm sorry to hear that. i've actually had a few hair dressers actually do my hair well & style it well, but it cost more than it should. so now i only get it pressed every once in a while & i do it myself the rest of the time. ovadose--mizani conditioners are the best i've ever used in my life. it makes it easier for home hair care. they are expensive, but worth it

I am sooooooooooo natural mehn

hairdressers are only concerned about money most of the time i tell you....its really ridiculous and i am very picky with my hair cus i dnt trust just anyone before they mess it up and mess me up..... dats why i took the natural route

I kissed perms good bye... and i trained myself wiv the hot rollers/hot irons and other self handling/styling of my own hair..... u gota do what u gotta do.

now, i jus do twists wiv my kinky hair or braids and weave if i wanna look different. Plus, i have found ppls who do it for me for free.

Find a person/ friend who can braid very very well ( preferably african i tell u) for free or at a little token sum and stick to them.
