Question Permed Hair

I only have my hair out of braids during breaks because
maintaining permed hair for me is stressful! My hair dresser
wont let me use a curling iron, rollers dont do a thing for my
hair and I am pretty much banned from a good number of oils
and sprays.
How do you girs who live with your hair permed manage to keep
it STYLISH and HEALTHY all year through?

Have you considered leaving it natural? If it is going to be in braids the majority fo the time then why even bother perming it?

Natural? It is too long to do any nice natural styles
and I will have to chop my hair off! I rebuke that.
Besides, my hair breaks combs, I dont want to
imagine my tears when it is all natural.

I have seen the flyest natural hair styles in the city (I mean NYC). The styles they do with naural hair are amazing. I think location is very key.

I cut the perm out my hair and started using products that are not oil based and it is the best thing that I have done for my hair. Oil wears the hair down too much.

okay gal this is what I do, the only time I use a curling/flat iron is when I am at the hairdressers or when I have just washed it. and trust me ur haor could not have gotten any thicker than mine, I am sure u remember our child hood days, your hair always looked good anyways. okay back to the topic, I use Vitapointe by clairol every other night, it is not oil based and it does not leave ur hair heavy. it just conditions it, I really love it. when I am going to bed, I wrap it up and I use a silk scarf or a bandana, silk scarfs are better though. then in the morning I just comb it out and i am read to go and my wrap always falls in the right places. The key thing is to wrap it up, if you wear your hair down, I hope that helps.

yeah I get a perm once a month and you gotta stick to one hairdresser. If you use no lye never switch to lye unless you decided to cut your hair and vise versa, cos it is very damaging.

Uh? What u mean by no excuse?

Personally, sometimes i dont have time 4 my bloomin hair, I mean i perm my hair, get it syled up and all and 2 days later if not the next day, its all messed up.

Then, i cut it short in thought that was better...but same thing.

I have to go 2 d hair dressers every week, now who got time 4 that.

Put the damn hair in braids...no hassles every morning....and save u from the bad hair day or weaing a hat.

I think the key to healthy hair is to keep it clean and well mosturized, and also find a good hair stylist. I apply mosturizer to my scalp every other day and wash it at least every 10 days. It's also important to get your hair touched up every 6 to 8 weeks (depends on your hair, once a month might be excessive and can overprocess your hair, but agai it depends on your hair.) Apply minimal heat ( I try to only apply heat to my hair when I've washed or relaxed it) and make sure to get regular trims. Also avoid products with alcohol ( mousse and many hairsprays)

One tip:
Before you take out your braids ( 2 weeks before) have a deep condition treatment, so it can be protected when you put in your relaxer.

Cool

make sure you have a perm every 6weeks, if you have the wrap style wrap it every night and oil it every 2days to avoid dandruff or breakage. stick to one relaxer don't change relaxers and try to visit the hair dresser for washing and setting every 2 weeks thats what i do and my hair is nice and healty . avoid doing braids "cos" it cuts hair . more info let me know hope this helps gurl!!!!!
