Be careful about the candles. I had quite a few college friends burn their apartment down. Something about youth and fire should not be mixed.

Rather than candles, try using unique lighting styles like oriental lamp shades.

just go to the home sections of any store like pier 1 imports, walmart , tjmaxx etc and they have all those motifs set up, u pick one item and shop around that to create a setting to ur liking.
